Today (27 April 2009) at 2 pm., the Revenue Department organised a seminar on Taxation of Public Entertainers at Meeting Room 1, the Revenue Department building. The seminar aimed to provide an understanding on the correct tax payment for public entertainers, including details on tax calculation and tax liabilities of non-juristic body of persons. The seminar attracted attention from many companies involved in the business. Almost 250 people attended the seminar.
Mr. Vinai Vittavasgarnvei, Director-General of the Revenue Department, said, after presiding over the opening ceremony, that this seminar is another service organised by the Revenue Department to provide an understanding on the correct tax payments and calculations for public entertainers, including an understanding on forming non-juristic body of persons. This is a service from the Revenue Department that the taxpayers would be entitled to. In this regards, the Revenue Department sent invitation letters to companies in the entertainment business, no matter it is a small, medium, or large company. The Revenue Department viewed that public entertainers were famous and admired by people so they should be role models for young people and fulfill tax liabilities as part of being good citizens.
The Director-General of the Revenue Department emphasised that in the past, there might be those who paid taxes incorrectly due to misunderstanding or lack of knowledge which were reasons that the taxpayers could improve and adjust in accordance with the facts by themselves. This way the public would observe the correct image which would be the ideal of the young people and the society. We hoped that the seminar would help reducing the gap between the Revenue Department and the taxpayers, leading to a better understanding which would benefit both the taxpayers themselves and the country as a whole.
People who attended this seminar were actors, actresses, singers, masters of ceremonies, reporters, and those who involve with taxation of entertainment business such as Workpoint Entertainment Public Company Limited, GMM Grammy Public Company Limited, RS Public Company Limited, Exact Company Limited, Dara Video Company Limited, Bangkok Entertainment Company Limited, and Bangkok Television and Radio Company Limited.
